After experiencing the great needs of the people in Cape Verde. (The average worker makes approximately fifty cents per hour equivalent U.S. dollars). I wanted to continue to help. When I returned back to school I started a charity and decided the best way to raise funds was to organize a Fun Run. My plan was to solicit the support of the university professors and create a Race the Professors run. I arranged for all of the City permits and contacted sponsors to provide free massages and refreshments. Once again we had a limited budget to advertise our Fun Run but it is amazing how word spreads when there is an event that attracts everyone’s interest.

Saving Lives One Race at a Time

The Green Cape Foundation is a non-profit organization whose main income is through "Fun Runs", which are small 5k races where all the proceeds go to the charity's efforts to help the people in the third-world country of Cape Verde.

The "Fun Runs" are the backbone of this charities finances. In fact every 10 people that participate in the 5k race will help an entire family in Cape Verde start a mini business for themselves or find a job that can support them for the rest of their life.

The Charity plans to do these "Fun Runs" across the nation and will start with there first race in Rexburg, Idaho at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Participating in a "Fun Run" is a enjoyable way to donate money to a great cause.

The Green Cape Foundation was created to help others help themselves through teaching principles of self-reliance and Job management.

Cape Verde is located approximately 250 miles off the coast of West Africa. There are ten islands and nine are inhabited. The Church is established on six of the islands. There are approximately 420,000 people in Cape Verde

The islands of Cape Verde are very diverse. The capital city of Praia (which is Portuguese for “beach”) has a population of 115,000 people or about one-fourth of the population of all the islands. Praia is trying to attract tourism from cruise ships but because there are no real resorts or many hotels on the island, cruise ships are the best option for tourism. The outlying islands such as Fogo, which is basically a volcano in the middle of an island with some villages around the edges, the people have a lifestyle which is very primitive. Most of the men on the remote islands rely on fishing to make a living and many of the women lay cobblestones to make roads. The average income is about the equivalent of $2 U.S. per day. The people in Cape Verde are in desperate need of ways to help improve their employment skills and ways to produce income
